I really love specialty gourmet food shops. I appreciate the care their owners take in hand-selecting items for their customers. I know everything has been tasted with great thought.
One of my favorite sites to order from is La Tienda, a site started by a family that lived in Spain in the 70s and wanted to bring a taste of Spain back to America. They carry so many fine products from the country and each time I’ve ordered has been an experience. I was delighted to hear they had a physical shop and tapas bar in Williamsburg, VA. So, on our last visit, La Tienda was a must-visit.
The beautiful shop is filled with all of the items you will find on the Web site – an entire room dedicated to Spanish wines, oils and vinegars, canned tapas goods, olives, pottery, and even bath and body products. The Tapas Bar features a wide variety of options created with ingredients found in the shop.
Of course, I had to start with the Sangria- it was the perfect fit for sitting on the patio on a warm Virginia day.
We had a few different tapas (of course). We had a mushroom and asparagus dish and the classic patatas bravas (don’t leave without buying this jar of goodness from the shop!).
Finally, we finished with a meat and cheese plate with jamon, manchego, and Marcona almonds.
I just love the Spanish pottery and terracotta cazuelas. The Galician bread is the best bread you will ever taste in your life, especially dipped in the fine Spanish olive oil. Heaven.
If you visit Williamsburg, VA, don’t forget to check out La Tienda – and make sure you have plenty of room in your car to bring many goodies home!
